From below, the shaft reads as a glass volume on the facade rather than a utilitarian add-on: toughened glass in a steel frame from the bottom right to the top. The loads from the shaft and lift are carried by its own structure, and the building remains as it was.
The entrance is at ground-floor level: automatic stainless steel and glass sliding doors with a canopy above. The landing doors on each floor are also sliding, finished in stainless steel with glass inserts, and designed for daily traffic in a public building.
The car is an Izamet panoramic model in the Lux IS version. We later used the same approach, a separate glazed shaft next to the facade, on a listed heritage building in Chernivtsi, where putting the shaft inside the building was not allowed.
