What to know about Technos lifts

Technos is a Bulgarian manufacturer of lift equipment that follows the current edition of the European safety standards EN 81-20/50. The range is narrow and straightforward: passenger and goods lifts in a basic specification, without an excess of options. This equipment came onto the Ukrainian market together with other Bulgarian lifts, so here and there in residential buildings in the west of the country it is still installed and running.

What this compliance means in practice. EN 81-20 sets requirements for design and installation: shaft enclosure, refuge spaces above and below the car, shaft lighting, and maintenance access to components. EN 81-50 covers the calculations, checks and tests of lift components. What matters for the client is that the equipment was designed to this edition of the standards rather than adapted to it after the fact.

Now, to be direct: we do not currently offer Technos as our main equipment. Having compared what the client gets for the same money, we settled on another Bulgarian factory, Izamet, which offers a wider choice of car ranges and more ready-made builder's work drawings for different shafts. Technos remains within our scope as equipment we maintain and repair wherever it is already installed.

When servicing another manufacturer's equipment, what matters is not the brand but the availability of components. The traction machine, controller, door operator and safety gear here are industry-standard: they are matched using the nameplate and ordered from component manufacturers. Certain control boards and car trim parts take longer to arrive, and that is where you should allow extra time when planning repairs before the heating season.

Quick answers

Technos: frequently asked questions

Do you supply Technos lifts?

Not as our main option. Having compared specifications and prices, we settled on another Bulgarian factory, Izamet, and steer clients there. It is more honest to say so up front than to take an order and later explain why the equipment is not what was expected. We take on maintenance, repair and remote monitoring of installed Technos lifts without reservation.

How does Technos differ from Izamet?

Both factories are Bulgarian and both work to European safety standards, so there is no fundamental gap in the mechanics. For us the difference is practical: Izamet offers a wider choice of car ranges and more ready-made builder's work drawings for specific shaft sizes, so it is easier to find a design that fits the existing opening. In terms of the range available to order in Ukraine, Technos is noticeably narrower.

Our building has a Technos lift. Who will maintain it?

We will. The type of equipment does not change the scope of work: periodic checks, planned repairs, emergency call-outs, keeping the operating records and preparing for inspection. The controller, traction machine and doors in these lifts are industry-standard, and a trained lift technician can handle them. Only trim parts and certain circuit boards can be trickier; we order them for the specific lift using its nameplate data.

Can a Technos lift be upgraded without touching the shaft?

Usually, yes. The controller, door operator and landing call stations are replaced within the existing shaft: the fixings and cable routes stay the same. The traction machine is more complicated, as a different size means checking the loads on the machine room floor slab. What is actually worth replacing is shown by an inspection of the equipment and the entries in the repair log, and this must be done before the cost estimate, not after.
