What to know about BLT lifts

BLT's main selling point is that lifts, escalators and moving walks for a single project can be covered by one delivery. For a shopping centre this is no small thing: one specification, one set of documents, one spare-parts channel instead of three, and one signature on the report when something goes wrong. And when an escalator and a panoramic lift stand in the same atrium, the handrails and balustrades can be given a consistent look instead of being pieced together from different factories.

The BLT-NS series does without a machine room: a permanent-magnet synchronous gearless traction machine sits inside the shaft, so no room on the roof is needed. The BLT-FS goods lift is built rugged and right: PLC-based control, a variable-frequency door operator, a chequer-plate steel floor and a cast-iron sill. A pallet truck will not break a sill like that. The doors are telescopic or centre-opening, depending on the shaft width.

The BLT-VS panoramic series uses multi-layer impact-resistant glass, and a curved semicircular version is available. Budget for cleaning the glass from the outside: at height this is a separate cost item that clients only remember after handover. The factory declares its escalators and moving walks to the EN 115 safety standard and splits them into models: ESP-M with a narrow handrail for department stores, ESG for metro systems, railway stations and street underpasses.

On price, without embellishment: the basic specification really is basic. If the lift will carry people from morning till night, we recommend paying extra for European components in the drive and controller. And bear the logistics in mind: the equipment comes by sea, so order a kit of small spare parts together with the lift rather than after a breakdown.

Quick answers

BLT: frequently asked questions

It is a Chinese lift - how long will it really last?

Service life is determined not by the country but by what is inside: the traction machine, controller, guide rails and doors. In its basic specification, a BLT lift performs well in a residential building with average traffic. For a building with heavy traffic, we re-specify the drive and controller with European components, and then the discussion of service life becomes concrete, with specific items in the specification.

Can I order a lift with European components?

Yes, this is done for a specific order. The components most often upgraded are the traction machine, the variable frequency drive (VFD) and the controller, the parts whose failure costs the most. The extra cost is noticeable, so the decision is made per project: for a five-storey residential block it usually does not pay off, but for a business centre with a morning peak it does.

What about spare parts in three to five years' time?

Buttons, sensors, door rollers and brake linings are cheaper to include as a kit in the original order, while the container is shipping with the lift anyway. After that, some items can be sourced from what is available on the market. The worst-case scenario is waiting for a small part sent separately from halfway around the world, and that is exactly what we try to avoid.

Why is the delivery time longer than for a Bulgarian lift?

A sea route with transhipments plus customs clearance versus a truck overland from Europe: the difference in lead time is significant. The factory gives an exact date once the order is confirmed. We do not quote a lead time in advance: it depends on how busy the production line is and on the freight situation, and a promise made at random hits the construction schedule.

Do you install BLT lifts in western Ukraine?

Yes, we both install them and take them on for maintenance in Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Uzhhorod. A practical point: the factory drawings must be checked against the actual shaft before the order is confirmed. Correcting dimensions once production has started is slow and expensive, so we go out and measure ourselves rather than relying on the designer's figures.
